Today with so much going on in our society it is very easy to just be silent and let it just happen. I mean isn’t there enough people being loud and obnoxious for everyone? People fighting to have rights to allow their sin to be public and accessible, I most cases forcing others to accept the unacceptable. Sin doesn’t change with the times, sin is sin. How you define something doesn’t change what it is.
I said to myself, “I will watch what I do and not sin in what I say. I will hold my tongue when the ungodly are around me.” But as I stood there in silence— not even speaking of good things— the turmoil within me grew worse. The more I thought about it, the hotter I got, igniting a fire of words: “ LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.”
Psalms 39:1-5 NLT
Every been with someone for a long period of silence? Awkward at times isn’t it, not knowing exactly what to say next. Maybe you are choosing to be silent or lost for words, but in this verse, we are reminded yet again that life is short. The moment we choose to be silent might be the only time the person you are neglecting to share the love of Christ to is ready to hear it. I don’t want to miss out on those times, I need to be more vocal about my faith, I want to obey.
As believers, we need to speak out in love. Sometimes it is hard because others have taken up the cause and have been either hateful in their approach or have been butchered by the opposition for their stance. Tolerance is their argument but tolerance in what I believe not yours.
Now we don’t have to go this alone, if you are wiling to speak out about your faith you have help. Like any good political leader they have a speech writer, well we don’t have a writer but we do have the Holy Spirit living inside us who can give us words to speak, reveal truths and things that only he can know. If we would tap into the power he has for us we can speak love and truth that will change the world. Then and only then will we be able to impact those around us and the world.
Dear Jesus, let us not be silent about our faith anymore. Our lives are but a moment and can be taken away just as easy as the next breath. Continually use me to reach others more then I have in the past. So much more. Amen
