Day 6: 50 Days of Impact

Jesus is known by many, but how many knows him personally?

“Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)”

Romans 8:5-9 NLT

I wonder at the fact that approximately 30% of the world claims the title Christian, that’s quite a number. But how many of those 2.2 billion people are controlled by sinful nature and how many trust the Holy Spirit?

With the strife and callings and scandals we hear about I would think that some are not who they want to be. It is very easy to go back to the sinful ways we are used to. We have failed in grounding new believers so when  the difficult times come they fall and don’t rely on God, instead trying to do it all themselves.

So how do we break this cycle? How do we challenge our brothers and sisters is Christ?

We need to ensure first that we are walking with the Holy Spirit fully. We can’t be looked at as those people who say one thing and do another. Second, we need to disciple our new believers. We sometimes forget that we may have grown up in church and have an intellectual foundation, but many new believers don’t, or what they do have is flawed. Guide them, walk with them, get dirty with them, pick them up when they fall, correct them, encourage them and love them.

Holy Spirit, you are welcome in my life. Guide my path. Help me to walk in righteousness.  I want to follow Jesus and do Gods will in my life. Let me be an example to others. Guide me to others who need to be mentored in the faith. May I be a blessing to others. Amen

  1. How wonderful to read, ” Guide them, walk with them, get dirty with them” We soooo need each other at every season. Those going through various trials need it too, no matter how long they have believed. May God grant us deep love for one another that goes beyond pot lucks and retreats.
